30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.
31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.
32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?
33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.
34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.
Is It Really To Die For?
I've been dealing with some health issues lately. Some are a straight attack from the enemy. I know that I'm already healed and truly have wasted no time thinking about them. I believe in the healing power of God and that He still heals today.
But some are the direct results of my own actions. I know that. I have to accept it. The only remaining question is what will I do about it.
Esau sold his birthright for some beans. He was hungry. To hear him tell it, he was dying to eat. That which was most precious didn't even measure up to a bowl of soup in his eyes.
Before we criticize, however, we must examine our own lives. What do we do to our own demise? Do we eat the right foods? Get enough rest? Do we stay away from things we know are poisoning our bodies? Or are we just dying for a cigarette? Was that chocolate cake 'to die for'? That man, that woman someone we just can't live without?
But, is it...are they really worth dying for?
And what about this spirit man of ours? Do we feed him? What do we feed him? Do we feast on the Word of God, or just drop by on Sunday for a quick bite and then try to run on week? Maybe get a drop of water on Wednesday but continue to go without until the next Sunday?
Are we suffering from spiritual anorexia? Or just bullemic with the world? You know...we stuff ourselves with the things that are contrary to the Word of God, and then we purge ourselves when we're confronted by the Holy Spirit, crying and promising that we'll never do it again...until about a day or two later when we're right back in it, waist deep.
There are things that we come up against that are straight out attacks. Fortunately, no weapon formed against us shall prosper. But, for the things we do to ourselves, I encourage you (and me) to remember, greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. These things can change.
No matter the state. No matter the damage done, things can change. We just have to decide to get better.
Remember the prodigal son? After he had spent all his money and found himself eating with pigs, the Word testifies that he 'came to himself' and remembered that at least the servants in his father's house had food to eat.
Don't worry about me. I've decided to do what I need to do to undo what I've done, as much as I can. But its just my body. I can do that.
But when it comes to our soul, everything has already been undone. I asked the question in the topic 'is it worth dying for?' Jesus answered it. When the 'it' was you and I, then yes, we were worth dying for.
Since He has already undone the bad things, won't you do your part and receive His goodness?
Or will you die for your right to stay away?
