Purposeful Passion

Luke 9:51

And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,

Purposeful Passion

I wish I had thought of that phrase.

I had the good pleasure of hearing Judge Glenda Hatchet at a Women's History event this morning.  She used that phrase in her challenge to all of us to have 'purposeful passion' in our pursuits.  When Judge Hatchet issued her challenge, I could immediately picture the difference between being passionate and being purposefully passionate.  The difference is in doing.

To be passionate conveys excitement, enthusiasm.  To be purposefully passionate means putting your passion in action with direction, commitment as well as enthusiasm and excitement.

Jesus gave us the greatest example of this in action.  He set his face toward Jerusalem, against the wishes of his companions.  Against 'good sense' given that He was a wanted man.  But Jesus did more than just decide to go.  He was Steadfast...immovable.  He was committed to the journey.  He had purpose to His passion.  He had a direction.  He had a goal.  In our acceptance of His place as Lord and Savior, He realizes His goal.

What is the purpose to your passion?  I've had to ask myself this over and over today.  Am I putting purpose behind my passion?

We talk about passion a lot at Fellowship.  It's kind of a governing tenant to walking in Christ.  We were all made fearfully and wonderfully (Psalm 139:14).  We are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27).  We are made for a purpose, God's purpose for us (Romans 8:28).

So, the question remains.  Are you purposefully passionate?  If your honest answer is no, please let us help you find your passion and energize your purpose at Fellowship.  If the honest answer is yes, the offer remains the same.

Luke 9:57-62

King James Version (KJV)
57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.

60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.

61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.

62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Lets be fit.  Lets add purpose to our passion.
